Rotunda monument - Lewis and Clark State Historical Site, Wood River, IL. The monument has eleven columns representing the states along the Lewis and Clark route. The "Corps of Discovery," some 42 men under the command of Capt. William Clark, departed May 14, 1804 in a keelboat and two pirogues, carrying 29 tons of supplies. Capt. Lewis was in St. Louis handling last minute details and would meet them in St. Charles.
